The Title Method
1.Choose a title. try not to make cliched or generic, unless thats the point of your song.
2. Narrow the topic of your title. if you named it gateways, what kind of gateways? to your soul? to a real place? to an alternate ego? make sure you are sure about what you are writing.
3.Write! you don't have to write all at once. it may take days or weeks before your done with all the body of your song. and it doesn't have to rhyme, if you don't want it to. also, don't try to have vit rhyme every line, use a verse or lymryck ways.
4. leave your project alone over night. then look at it again.
4. Revise. does one part look like it should go with another section? do you think you need to add another verse? do you need to change something?
5. finish. write it out on a new piece of paper.
6. add a melody using the guitar, piano, or any other instrument you wish to use.
The melody method
write a melody. add words. done.
The freelance method
1.If you are inspired to write something down, write it down. don't judge it or try to make a song out of it. any time you are hit with inspiration, just write it on paper, a napkin, your jeans, etc. don't try to remember it.
2. look over all your notes. do any of them fit together, or have the same idea? even if they don't fit, you can revise some of it or add more to make it work.
3.leave it alone at least overnight.
4.revise
5.finish.
6.add melody.
